Green Breakfast
Recent interest in my ‘breakfast’ and friends wanting the recipe made me think it might be useful to share it here.
To be fair, not everyone is attracted to it, I think the vivid green colour from the Spirulina is both a draw and repellent!
But really, my breakfast is a meal in itself.
It’s basically overnight soaked porridge with grated apple and nut granola on top.
Here are the two recipes that started me off on this, which I’ve adapted as time has gone on
from ‘Nourish and Glow’ by Amelia Freer
The actual things I put into the soaked porridge are:
- 1 tsp Cacao power
- 0.5 tsp Spirulina power
- 1 tbs chia seeds (they appreciate the soaking in particular because they soften and lighten the consistency
- 1 tbs flax / linseed
- 1 tsp Buckwheat
- 1 tbs wheatgerm
- 1 tbs raisons
- 2 dried prunes
- 3 tbs mixed porridge and jumbo oats
These dry ingredients are mixed together and then oat milk poured over the top.
The following morning before I eat it I grate an apple over the top and add a tablespoon of the nut granola.
I was reflecting the other day that it really has become a very regular habit. I first began doing it intermittently in 2017 and now take a mixed bag of it when I go on holiday! It’s a habit I enjoy and a habit that is good for me.
So often I think we focus on bad habits and the frustrations around those. But we all have good ones too. What good routines and habits do you have that you can look back and see how they’ve grown? I’d love to hear your habit and how it has developed.
It’s also good to remember where we started with our habits. We all start small and we never really know how they are going to catch on for us. We need to remember that with new habits we want to adopt. Review and reflect. Celebrate and edit. The more we can make them more manageable, more appealing and more appropriate, the more we’ll keep them.
And my breakfast… it may seem complicated, it really isn’t. I have a shelf in the kitchen with everything on it and I put it all together before I go to bed so that it soaks overnight.
One friend when he saw my porridge breakfast said he didn’t want the recipe, he wanted the shelf!
